O'Connor & Battle, LLP, is very pleased to congratulate Robert Cheris on his recent defense verdict for a local hospital after a 3-day jury trial on a negligence claim in DuPage County. Plaintiff's counsel asked the jury for $400,000. The jury deliberated for three hours before returning a defense verdict.

Plaintiff, an ICU nurse at a different facility, was visiting her mother-in-law and claimed that the hospital failed to maintain its premises in a safe manner, causing plaintiff to injure herself and resulting in two years of medical treatment, physical therapy, injection therapy, and serial MRI testing.

O' Connor & Battle, LLP is very pleased to congratulate Mary O'Connor and Robert Cheris on their recent defense verdict for a cardiologist after a 13 day jury trial on a wrongful death claim in Kane County. Plaintiff's counsel sought between $7,900,000 and $8,900,000 in damages for the surviving spouse. The jury deliberated for an hour before returning a verdict for all defendants.

Plaintiff claimed that the cardiologist, as well as the co-defendant surgeon and anesthesiologist, collectively failed to identify and treat the patient's alleged thyroid storm. The patient was a 36 year-old woman who failed to treat her hyperthyroidism for years. She presented to the emergency department and was admitted with appendicitis. Emergency surgery was successful, but she suffered a sudden cardiac arrest about two and a half hours after arriving on the floor post-op. Plaintiff's counsel claimed that the untreated hyperthyroidism in conjunction with the patient's clinical picture required a higher level of care. Our client had seen the patient after she arrived on the floor and only an hour before her cardiac event
